Market Scientist
Tremor is a venture-backed insurance technology firm where world class computer scientists, economists, market designers and industry practitioners are working together to build a modern risk transfer marketplace for the $1 trillion reinsurance industry. Tremor’s “smart market” platform incorporates intelligent market design, state-of-the-art auction technology and sophisticated optimization techniques to vastly improve how risk is transferred around the world.
Tremor is seeking an entrepreneurial expert in market design, optimization, data science, reinsurance, or a related area to join our world class market science team. The market science team is responsible for the science behind Tremor’s smart market, applying the latest smart market technology to the reinsurance market. Team members bring scientific and research expertise relevant to smart markets and reinsurance, and have a passion for applying their expertise. Team members work with both product leaders and engineers to design market features and see them implemented. Team members are also encouraged to maintain their expertise as appropriate for their field. The role would be a full time position based in Boston, MA or Minneapolis, MN.
Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert within the company in one or more of the following areas: market design/mechanism design/game theory, optimization, reinsurance, data science

For features within your specialty, work with Tremor’s product team to design them, then work with the engineering team to build them. You may be responsible for owning the feature through Tremor’s agile process and/or implementing technically complex pieces of the feature.

As appropriate for problems within your specialty, do analyses, build simulations, design visualizations, and build other non-production tools to support internal and external users.
Qualifications

Ph.D. in Economics/Operations Research/Computer Science or related field with expertise in market design, optimization, re/insurance, portfolio optimization, data science, or a similar area

Desirable skills: exposure to mechanism design and familiarity with standard auction formats, experience in re/insurance and/or portfolio optimization, experience in agile software development, experience using R/Python for data analysis.
